It took me a long time to get into the rhythm of blogging as a software engineer. I always knew it’s a good idea to document projects, share tips, etc. But I could never fully commit because I couldn’t decide what topics to write about or if my website has the right color scheme and correct fonts. The doubt and indecision kept me from focusing on actually writing.
If you’re anything like me and tend to get stuck overthinking, Front & Center Leadership book is a great starting point. It’s an easy read filled with actionable items followed by relevant snippets from interviews Brandon Birkmeyer conducted with different professionals in the leadership space.
My biggest takeaway
At this point I have developed a habit of writing blog posts on regular basis and have an idea of where I want to take my content long term. This book was a good reminder to keep things simple and focus on small wins:
“…keep it small, simple, and easy to understand.. Pick something easy that you can help people with right now” (p. 118)
Do I recommend this book to software engineers?
Yes. If you’re just starting out your career or are already well on your way, a lot of the advice in this book is generally applicable to software engineering career and I do recommend that you place this book on your TBR list in 2025.
